Summary of HSE Outcome and Service Review (2007/ 2008)White Oaks came into being in 2001, and between 2001 and 2005 dealt with 506 residential clients and their wider families. The Department of Health Medicine, HSE West, conducted a review of the outcomes and effectiveness of treatment in the period 2001-2005. Some of its findings are summarised here to indicate the potential of this approach to treatment. - 69% of clients were abstinent at the time of the survey
- 38% had never relapsed since leaving treatment
- 89% of clients completed treatment
- 68% attendance at aftercare support
- 81% post treatment showed that for those who achieved abstinence had not subsequently attended a general or psychiatric hospital
- 54% had been treated for their addiction by their GP prior to treatment
- Unemployment status for the overall group reduced from 46% to 20%
- 71% felt their quality of life had improved since leaving treatment
